12/2/2016 9:06:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers (6-1) extended their home winning streak inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall to 22 games, which is the longest active streak in the Big Ten and tied for eighth-longest nationally, by defeating the Cougars of SIU Edwardsville (4-4), 83-60.
Sophomore Juwan Morgan led the Hoosiers' offensive effort with a career-high 18 points, and tacked on 10 rebounds, five of which were offensive, en route to his first career double-double. Morgan finished the evening shooting 8-for-8 from the field
After a slow start, Indiana's offense spread their lead wide open with the help of an 11-0 run midway through the first half. Thomas Bryant sparked the offensive spurt by drilling a 3-pointer in the corner. De'Ron Davis then took complete control of the game, scoring Indiana's next eight points and pushed Indiana's lead to 29-15.
Indiana's defense stood tall over the final 9:22 of the first half by allowing SIU Edwardsville to score just nine points and took a commanding 43-21 lead heading into the half.
The second half gave Indiana the opportunity to gain experience with younger guys and they did not disappoint. Indiana's second half was highlighted by a thunderous alley-oop throw down by Freddie McSwain Jr., off of a half-court pass from Curtis Jones. Later in the game, with 4:32 remaining, sophomore Zach McRoberts dished a saucy pass to a cutting Jones that led to a two-handed slam from the freshman guard. Jones would finish the game with two assisst and seven points, shooting 3-for-5 from the field.
De'Ron Davis posted a career-high 14 points off of the bench by shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He added three rebounds and one block throughout his 17-minutes of play.
Thomas Bryant ended the night with 11 points, five rebounds and three of Indiana's eight blocked shots.
Indiana dominated the boards tonight by out-rebounding SIU Edwardsville, 45-31. The Hoosiers also posted a season-high 34 bench points, which was the most bench production since the Hoosiers had 37 bench points against Chattanooga in the NCAA Tournament on March 17, 2016.
Indiana returns home to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall this Sunday, Dec. 4, when the Hoosiers go on to face the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State in the fourth game in eight days for the Hoosiers. The game will be available on the IU Radio Network and will air on ESPN2.
