No. 13/10 Indiana Runs Past Southeast Missouri, 83-55

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 13/10-ranked Indiana University men's basketball team extended their winning streak to 23 games at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with an 83-55 win over Southeast Missouri on Sunday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind.
Indiana moved to 7-1 on the season with the victory, while the SEMO fell to 4-4 on the year. The 23-game home winning streak for IU is the sixth-best in the country and is tied for the sixth-longest streak in school history.
Robert Johnson led four Hoosiers in double-figures with a game-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds, while De'Ron Davis had 14 points and five rebounds off the bench.
James Blackmon, Jr. scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Juwan Morgan totaled 11 points and three rebounds. Josh Newkirk filled up the stat line for the Hoosiers, recording eight points, eight assists and four rebounds in the victory.
For the game, IU shot 29-of-56 (51.8 percent) from the floor, marking the third time this season that the Hoosiers have shot better than 50 percent for a game. The Hoosiers, who entered the contest second in the country in rebounding margin (+15.4) again dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Redhawks, 44-33.
The Hoosiers came out and seized control of the game early, opening the contest on a 17-2 run over the first eight minutes. IU attacked the rim during the stretch, hitting five lay-ups to go with 3-pointers from Blackmon, Jr. and Josh Newkirk.
SEMO made a run of their own, cutting the Hoosier lead to just five, 28-23, with 4:52 left in the first half, but the IU defense responded, limiting the Redhawks to just three points the rest of the half. Thanks to an 11-3 run over the final 4:52, IU took a 39-26 lead in to the halftime break.
IU's defense was tremendous in the first 20 minutes, holding Southeast Missouri to just 29 percent (10-of-35) shooting, while forcing seven turnovers. Indiana also out-rebounded SEMO, 26-16, in the first half.
In the second half, the IU defense was even better, not allowing the Redhawks to score a field goal over a stretch of 8:43 minutes in the middle of the stanza. SEMO went 0-for-7 from the field, while the Hoosiers went on a 16-7 run to extend the lead to 66-42.
Over the final eight minutes, IU continued to dominate, going on to win, 83-55. For the game, Indiana limited SEMO to just 31.3 percent (20-of-64) shooting from the floor, including 5-of-25 (20 percent) from 3-point territory.
IU forced the Redhawks in to 17 turnovers, scoring 16 points off SEMO's miscues. The Hoosiers dominated in the paint, out-scoring SEMO, 42-26, and also held the advantage in bench scoring, 29-9.
Thomas Bryant had a great game for IU, totaling seven points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and a career-high three steals. Curtis Jones scored eight points and had two steals off the bench, while fellow freshman Devonte Green added five.
The No. 13/10 Indiana Hoosiers will be back on the court on Saturday, Dec. 10 when the team hosts Houston Baptist at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET. with the game being broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
