Track and Field Hosts Hoosier Hills
The Hoosiers will compete at home for the final time in the indoor season on Friday. Members of thirteen different teams will be competing, including: Indiana State, DePaul, Dayton, and South Florida.
Indiana comes off a strong performance in the Meyo Invitational. Twenty different athletes achieved lifetime best marks in their event. Head Coach Ron Helmer was pleased with the performance and the direction that the team is heading. With the Big Ten Championships looming, it is important that the team keeps building off of that momentum.
The record-breaking trend continues as Nakel McClinton broke her school record weight throw mark. It is the second consecutive week in which McClinton has broken her own school record. Her mark of 20.78m (68-2.25ft) won the event, kept her at the top spot in the conference, and moved her to 11th in the nation.
Daniel Kuhn continued his impressive season by winning the 800m run with a time of 1:48.41. Jordan Huntoon ran a season best time of 1:50.65 in the event to finish eighth. The Meyo Mile saw two Indiana men's runners turn in season best marks. Rorey Hunter took third with a time of 4:00.82, and Kyle Duvall finished fourth with a time of 4:01.66.
Brenna Calder improved her standing in Hoosier history after her career best 4:42.60 in the mile. She moved up a couple of spots to number seven in the record books. Taylor Wiley found herself in the record book following a career best time of 2:09.53 in the 800m run. She squeaked into tenth place on the all-time performance list.
The men's throwers found success in South Bend as well. Willie Morrison posted a mark of 17.77m (58-3.75ft) with a third place finish in the shot put. David Schall threw a season best mark of 17.10m (56-01.25ft) to take seventh. Andrew Miller finished ninth in the weight throw with a season best mark of 19.65m (64-05.75ft).
Friday's action will begin with the women's 60m dash prelims scheduled for 3:45PM. The finals of the 60m dash will begin at 5:00PM. Field events will begin at 4:00PM with the women's long jump. The Hoosier Hills meet will come to a close following the men's 4x400m relay at approximately 9:30PM.
