Pear Siriko used a final round 74 to finish tied for 35th, the top performer for the Hoosiers
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Led by sophomore Pear Siriko's final round 74, the Indiana women's golf team finished in 15th place at the 2016 Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course.
As a team, Indiana posted a score of 309 in the third round, giving them a total score for the week of 921, which was three shots ahead of No. 26 Clemson. The field featured four top 10 teams and 12 teams that were ranked inside the top 50 in the country.
"We did a lot well this week," Indiana head coach Clint Wallman said. "Tee to green, there were a lot of positives and we battled through some tough conditions in round two. We always want to finish higher, but I think there is cause for optimism after this week and I'm glad that we get right back into tournament play next week in Arizona."
Sophomore Pear Siriko's final round score of 2-over par 74 was the best of the day by an IU player. Her total score of 226 (+10) gave her a share of 35th place on the individual leaderboard, her best finish of the season. Her final round featured two bogeys, one double bogey and two birdies on first nine holes before she posted nine straight pars to close out the round.
"I thought Pear played really well throughout the tournament," Wallman said of the Thailand native. "She would be the first to admit that she wasn't making as many putts as she is capable, which is a good sign if she is able to play this well without making those putts. Now we just need to keep working and doing everything we can to get those putts to fall, which will help not only her but the rest of the team as well."
Senior Camille Chevalier closed with a round of 79 on Tuesday, giving her a share of 45th place with a total score of 228 (+12). Her final round saw 12 pars but she was unable to post any birdies.
Matching Siriko's round of 74 was freshman Erin Harper, who carded a team-best three birdies in her round. She finished one stroke behind Chevalier for the week, with a score of 229 (+13) and a tie for 49th.
Ana Sanjuan's final round 82 put her total score for the week at 238 (+22) and a tie for 77th while Theresa-Ann Jedra also posted an 82 on Tuesday and finished in 84th.
The Hoosiers will be at the Westbrook Invitational at Westbrook Village Golf Course in Peoria, Ariz., starting on Sunday, Feb. 21.
