Hoosiers Bring Back 12 Swimmers for Thursday’s B1G Finals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana women's swimming and diving team will bring back 12 swimmers for the evening finals on Thursday at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Hoosiers will have four divers in the A Finals, including the top seed in both the 500 freestyle and 200 IM. IU will also have four swimmers in the B Finals and four swimmers in the C Finals.
500 Freestyle
Indiana had four swimmers qualify for the evening finals in the 500 freestyle. Haley Lips earned the top spot in the 500 freestyle A Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 4:37.44. Lips' time is the eighth-fastest in school history and ranks her as the third-fastest 500 freestyler in IU history.
Stephanie Marchuk qualified 11th overall and will swim in the B Final after touching the wall in a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 4:42.46. Her time ranks her as the 10th-fastest 500 freestyler in IU history. Marchuk will be joined by teammate Kennedy Goss in the B Final, as Goss qualified 13th overall with a NCAA B cut time of 4:43.25.
Allison Cunningham qualified 19th overall and will swim in the C Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 4:47.56. Her time ranks her as the 14th-fastest 500 free swimmer in school history.
Delaney Barnard finished 36th overall with a time of 4:52.66.
200 IM
The Hoosiers were terrific in the 200 IM, bringing back six swimmers for the evening finals, including three in the A Final. IU will be led by Miranda Tucker, who was the top qualifier in the event with her personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:56.91. Her time ranks as the sixth-fastest all-time at IU and Tucker is now the second-fastest 200 IM swimmer in school history.
Joining Tucker in the A Final will be Gia Dalesandro and Lilly King for the Hoosiers. Dalesandro qualified fifth overall with a NCAA B cut time of 1:58.30, while King qualified sixth with her personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:58.47. King's time ranks her as the eighth-fastest 200 IM swimmer in IU history.
Sam Lisy qualified 11th overall and will swim in the B Final after touching the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 1:59.86. Bailey Pressey (2:01.21) and Rachel Matsumura (2:01.27) will swim in the C Final, as both qualified with NCAA B cut times.
Reagan Cook placed 37th with a time of 2:02.32, while Shelly Drozda came in 42nd with a mark of 2:02.87. Olivia Barker (2:05.62) placed 67th, while Laura Morley (2:06.83) came in 76th.
50 Freestyle
Indiana will bring back two swimmers for the evening finals of the 50 freestyle. Grace Vertigans qualified 11th overall and will swim in the B Final after touching the wall in a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 22.76. Her time ranks her as the fifth-fastest 50 freestyler in school history.
Holly Spears will swim in the C Final after qualifying 22nd with her personal-best time of 23.06. Spears' time ranks her as the 11th-fastest 50 freestyle swimmer in program history.
Gabriela Rajic just missed qualifying for an evening final, coming in 25th with a personal-best time of 23.11 that ranks her as the 13th-fastest 50 freestyler in IU history. Kaitlin Kitchens finished 27th with a time of 23.14, while Marie Chamberlain was 53rd in a time of 23.59.
Katherine Keller (24.51) and Taylor Truex (24.86) each had personal-best swims, as they placed 86th and 91st, respectively.
The 2016 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will continue on Thursday night at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor at 6:30 p.m. On deck for the third session will be the finals of the 200 freestyle relay, the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, the 50 freestyle and the 1-meter dive.
