School Record, 19 Finals Qualifiers for IU in Friday Swimming Prelims

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana women's swimming and diving team had a successful morning prelim session on Friday at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Hoosiers qualified 19 swimmers for Friday evening's finals – nine in the Championship Finals, six in the B Finals and four in the C Finals.
400 IM
In the 400 IM, the Hoosiers had all five swimmers qualify for Friday night's finals. Reagan Cook qualified fourth overall for the Championship Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 4:12.41. Her time ranks her as the eighth-fastest 400 IM swimmer in IU history. Joining Cook in the Championship Final will be Sam Lisy, who qualified eighth overall with a NCAA B cut time of 4:13.00.
Bailey Pressey qualified 11th overall and will swim in the B Final after timing in with a NCAA B cut time of 4:15.06 in the prelims. Rachel Matsumura posted a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 4:18.94 to qualify for the C Final. Matsumura's time ranks her as the 20th-fastest 400 IM swimmer in school history. Also swimming in the C Final for the Hoosiers will be Shelly Drozda, who qualified with a time of 4:20.57.
100 Butterfly
In the 100 butterfly, the Hoosiers will bring back three swimmers for Friday's finals. Gia Dalesandro qualified second overall with a NCAA B cut time of 52.08. Joining her in the Championship Final will be Christine Jensen, who qualified seventh overall with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 53.76. Jensen's time ranks her as the sixth-fastest 100 fly swimmer in IU history.
Olivia Barker also made it back for the evening finals, qualifying 13th overall to secure a spot in the B Final with her NCAA B cut time of 54.33. Kaitlin Kitchens placed 35th with a time of 55.44.
200 Freestyle
Indiana had a successful prelim session in the 200 freestyle, qualifying six swimmers for the evening finals.
The Hoosiers will have the top-two seeds in the Championship Final, as Haley Lips broke a 10-year old Canham Natatorium record with her NCAA B cut time of 1:44.36. Qualifying right behind Lips in second overall was Kennedy Goss, who timed in with a NCAA B cut mark of 1:44.84
IU will have three swimmers in the B Finals, who all qualified with NCAA B cut times. Delaney Barnard (1:47.17) qualified 12th overall, Grace Vertigans (1:47.61) 15th and Stephanie Marchuk (1:47.64) 16th.
Holly Spears qualified 18th overall for the C Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:47.76. Spears' time ranks her as the 18th-fastest 200 free swimmer in school history.
Allison Cunningham finished 27th with a personal-best time of 1:48.82, while Ali Rockett came in 35th with a mark of 1:49.83. Gabriela Rajic finished 39th with a personal-best time of 1:50.06.
100 Breaststroke
The 100 breaststroke prelims on Friday morning saw the Indiana school record in the event broken on back-to-back swims. IU will have the top-two seeds in the Championship Final after the show put on by Lilly King and Miranda Tucker.
Lilly King continued her dominance in the event, securing the top seed with a IU school record time of 58.38 – breaking the mark set just minutes earlier by teammate Miranda Tucker in 59.37.
King's time of 58.38 is not only a school record, but is also a Canham Natatorium record and a NCAA A cut time. Tucker's time of 59.37 is the second-fastest time in Indiana history and also a NCAA B cut mark.
Laura Morley qualified for the C Final of the 100 breaststroke with a personal-best time of 1:02.16 that ranks her as the ninth-fastest 100 breast swimmer in school history.
Mackenzie Atencio placed 26th overall with a personal-best time of 1:02.79. Atencio's time ranks her as the 12th-fastest 100 breast swimmer in IU history. Taylor Truex finished 52nd with a time of 1:05.25.
100 Backstroke
IU will bring back a pair of swimmers for the evening finals of the 100 backstroke. Marie Chamberlain qualified third overall for the Championship Final with a NCAA B cut time of 52.54. Ali Rockett qualified 10th overall and will swim in the B Final after touching the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 53.99.
Katherine Keller placed 39th with a personal-best time of 56.42, while Christine Jensen finished 45th with a time of 56.91.
The 2016 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will continue on Friday evening at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor at 6:30 p.m. The finals on deck for Friday night are the 400 medley relay, the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, the 100 backstroke and the 3-meter dive.
