- The Hoosiers won their fourth consecutive season opener. Indiana opened up the season with victories of 2-0 over Louisville in 2013, 1-0 over Texas Tech in 2014, 4-2 over Stanford in 2015 and 14-4 over Middle Tennessee in 2016.
- IU improved to 2-1 all-time against Middle Tennessee.
- Senior LHP Kyle Hart retired the final 15 batters he faced, going five innings while allowing just one hit, striking out seven and walking one.
- Hart picked up his 22nd career victory, moving into a tie for seventh place all-time at Indiana in career wins with Bob Scafa (1991-94).
- Junior OF Craig Dedelow went 4-for-5 with three RBI and four runs scored, while also stealing a base. His four hits and four runs scored are both career-highs.
- Dedelow's home run in the third inning was the eighth of his career and his fifth career solo shot.
- The four-hit game for Dedelow marked his 29th career multi-hit game while the three RBI performance was his 12th career multi-RBI game.
- Dating back to last season, Dedelow has reached base in six-straight games.
- Sophomore OF Logan Sowers finished the evening going 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. His three runs are a new career-high.
- Sowers' homer in the second inning was the seventh of his career, and his third coming in the two-run home run department.
- With the three hits, Sowers now has 15 career multi-hit games and five career three-hit games.
- His two RBI marked the 10th career multi-RBI game of Sowers' career.
- Sophomore INF Isaiah Pasteur went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. The two-hit performance marked his seventh career multi-hit game.
- Freshman C Ryan Fineman made his Hoosier debut, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Freshman 1B Scotty Bradley also collected his first career hit and RBI with a two-run double.
- Indiana wore its gray sleeveless jersey with gray pants and the red hat.
