Tucker’s School Record Highlights Saturday Morning Prelims

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana women's swimming and diving team will bring back 15 swimmers for the final session of the 2016 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Indiana will have six swimmers in Championship Finals, four in B Finals and five in C Finals. The Hoosiers will also have two swimmers in the final heat of the 1,650 freestyle.
200 Backstroke
In the 200 backstroke, the Hoosiers had five swimmers qualify for the evening finals. Kennedy Goss led the IU charge, qualifying second overall for the Championship Final with a NCAA B cut time of 1:52.95. Marie Chamberlain also qualified for the A Final, touching the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 1:55.48.
Ali Rockett qualified 10th overall and will swim in the B Final after coming in with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:56.83. Rockett's time ranks her as the 17th-fastest 200 backstroker in school history. Rachel Matsumura also qualified for the B Final, timing in with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:57.24 that ranks her as the 19th-fastest 200 back swimmer in IU history.
Shelly Drozda will swim in the C Final after touching the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 1:59.02. Katherine Keller placed 44th with a personal-best time of 2:03.88.
100 Freestyle
In the 100 freestyle, Indiana had four swimmers qualify for the evening finals, led by Holly Spears who qualified for the Championship Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 49.19. Spears' time ranks her as the eighth-fastest 100 freestyle swimmer in school history.
Grace Vertigans qualified 13th overall and will swim in the B Final after touching the wall with a NCAA B cut time of 49.56. Gabriela Rajic (49.87) and Kaitlin Kitchens both qualified for the C Final, with Rajic notching a NCAA B cut.
Delaney Barnard just missed qualifying for the evening finals, placing 25th with a time of 50.18. Allison Cunningham finished 50th with a mark of 51.20, while Christine Jensen was 65th in a time of 51.63.
200 Breaststroke
In the 200 breaststroke, Miranda Tucker had a tremendous swim, breaking the Indiana school and Canham Natatorium record with her blistering mark of 2:07.63. Tucker's time was just 0.21 seconds off a NCAA A cut.
With Tucker as the top qualifier in the Championship Final, she will be joined by Lilly King, who qualified third overall. King touched the wall in a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 2:09.64. King's time is the seventh-fastest in school history and ranks her as the fourth-fastest 200 breast swimmer at IU.
Laura Morley placed 26th overall with a NCAA B cut time of 2:15.57, while Mackenzie Atencio came in 30th with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 2:16.28. Atencio's time ranks her as the 17th-fastest 200 breast swimmer in school history. Sam Lisy (2:18.20) finished 40th overall, while Taylor Truex (2:19.50) came in 47th.
200 Butterfly
In the 200 butterfly, the Hoosiers brought back all four swimmers for the evening finals. Gia Dalesandro was the top qualifier for the Championship Final, clocking in with a NCAA B cut time of 1:56.13.
Bailey Pressey will swim in the B Final after qualifying with a NCAA B cut time of 1:58.85. Swimming in the C Final for the Hoosiers will be Reagan Cook (2:00.28) and Olivia Barker (2:00.61).
The 2016 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will conclude on Saturday evening at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor at 6:30 p.m. On deck for Saturday evening are the finals of the 1,650 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, the 100 freestyle, the 200 breaststroke, the 200 butterfly, the platform dive and the 400 freestyle relay.
