Big Ten Championships Pre-Seeds Announced

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced Monday the pre-seeds for the 2016 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, set to take place at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City this coming weekend.
The Hoosiers landed three wrestlers in the pre-seeds: freshman Elijah Oliver (125), senior Alonzo Shepherd (133), and junior Nate Jackson (174).
The Big Ten coaches ranked the top eight wrestlers in eight of the weight classes, and ranked all 14 starters in two weight classes due to the Big Ten's nine NCAA Championships qualifier allocations at 133 lbs. and 174 lbs.
Official seeds will be determined on Friday, March 4 before the start of the tournament. The championships will begin Friday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. ET and conclude with the finals on Sunday, March 6 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Oliver and Jackson received No. 5 seeds in their respective weights. They both grapplers tallied 6-3 records in the Big Ten dual season. Oliver's three losses in the dual season came from the top three seeds in the tournament.
Jackson is currently ranked 11th nationally, while Oliver sits at 19th in his weight class.
Shepherd picked up the 13th seed in the weight class after a 1-7 record in Big Ten dual action.
Other Hoosiers set to compete in the 2016 Big Ten Championships are Tommy Cash (141), Luke Blanton (149), Jake Danishek (157), Bryce Martin (165), Matt Irick (184), Jake Masengale (197), and Garret Goldman (285).
The Big Ten's NCAA Championships allocation numbers are as follows: 125 (7), 133 (9), 141 (7), 149 (6), 157 (7) 165 (6), 174 (9), 184 (7), 197 (6), 285 (7).
