Track and Field Hits the Road for Meyo Invitational
The Hoosier Track and Field team will travel up to South Bend this weekend as they compete in the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. Many of the Big Ten schools will be represented at the event, including: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Purdue.
Two more school records were set last weekend at the Indiana University Relays. That brings the total number of records broken this year to six. Daniel Kuhn, who earned Co-Track Athlete of the Week for the Big Ten, broke the record in the 600m with a time of 1:16.91. His time tops both the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA currently. Nakel McClinton broke her own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 20.72m (67-11.75). She is currently tenth in the NCAA and first in the conference in the event.
Head Coach Ron Helmer was impressed with the performance of Treyton Harris and Willie Morrison. Harris posted a season best mark of 7.44m (25-5) in the long jump. That is the fifth best mark in the conference. Morrison took first in the shot put with a season best mark of 18.63m (61-1.5). That throw lands him in fourth on the all-time Hoosier performance list, 17th nationally, and fourth in the conference.
Kendell Wiles continued her strong season by winning the 600m run with a season best time of 1:31.47. She sits at number six in the record book and third in the conference for the 600m. Danielle Quinn set a new personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 12.45m (40-10.25). She moved up to the third spot in Indiana's record book.
Cornelius Strickland crossed first in the 200m dash with a time of 21.54 and was fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 6.92. Zach Bray improved his career best time in the 60m hurdles to 8.04.
Action will begin on Friday, February 5 with the women's pole vault and long jump scheduled for 3:45PM. Day one will come to a close following the men's 200m dash, which is set to start at approximately 9:00PM. The meet will resume on Saturday with the women's 3,000m run scheduled to start at 9:45AM. Concluding the meet will be the men's 4x400m relay at approximately 4:10PM.
