BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After winning its final non-conference match of 2016 over Southern Illinois last week, Indiana women's tennis now turns the page to begin Big Ten play on Saturday in Bloomington. The 50th-ranked Hoosiers will play host to the Iowa Hawkeyes on March 12 at 11 a.m. ET.
Indiana finished the non-conference slate with a 10-4 record, going 9-1 inside the IU Tennis Center. Two of IU's victories came over opponents that were ranked higher than the Hoosiers at the time of the match, those being over then-No. 59 Tennessee on Feb. 14 and then-No. 51 DePaul on Feb. 27. All four of Indiana's setbacks this season have been to teams that are currently ranked in the latest ITA National Rankings.
Iowa will arrive in Bloomington with a 9-4 record on the year. The Hawkeyes have already played one Big Ten match, falling short in that one on the road at Nebraska, 5-2. Iowa's Zoe Douglas is currently ranked 112th in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings.
This weekend's home dual match will be IU's last in the month of March as the Hoosiers will play five of their next six matches away from Bloomington. Indiana will play three straight road matches at Rutgers, Michigan and then Michigan State before hosting Purdue on April 2. The road swing will continue after that at Illinois and then at Northwestern.
