School Record Highlights IU’s Effort at Thursday Prelims at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA – The No. 13-ranked Indiana Hoosiers women's swimming and diving team qualified for three evening finals and set a school record during the morning prelims on Thursday at the 2016 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
The Hoosiers qualified one swimmer for a Championship Final, one relay for a Championship Final and one swimmer for a Consolation Final on Thursday night.
500 Freestyle
The Hoosiers had a great showing in the 500 freestyle prelims, qualifying two swimmers for the evening finals.
Senior Haley Lips qualified eighth overall in a time of 4:38.27 to make the Championship Final, while sophomore Kennedy Goss qualified 15th overall with a mark of 4:40.17 to make the Consolation Final.
Last year, Lips placed 19th in the event, while Goss earned Honorable Mention All-American honors with her 14th place finish.
Stephanie Marchuk placed 35th with a time of 4:44.15.
200 IM
Making her NCAA Championships debut, freshman Miranda Tucker placed in a tie for 27th overall in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.71. Tucker will also swim in the 100 and 200 breaststroke later this week, where she is seeded No. 4 and No. 3, respectively.
400 Medley Relay
Indiana finished out the swimming portion of the morning prelims with a great swim, as the 400 medley relay team of Marie Chamberlain, Lilly King, Gia Dalesandro and Kennedy Goss timed in with a school record time of 3:29.85, qualifying third overall for the Championship Final.
Freshman standout Lilly King had a blazing 100 breaststroke leg for the Hoosiers, timing in with a mark of 56.82. King is the No. 1 seed for both the 100 breast and 200 breast later this week.
The Hoosiers also set the Big Ten record with their great performance on Thursday morning, eclipsing the previous mark (3:30.17) the team set in winning the gold medal at the Big Ten Championships last month.
1-Meter Dive
In the prelims of the 1-meter dive, IU's Lacey Houser placed 21st overall with a score of 278.25, while Michal Bower finished 23rd with a total of 275.90.
The 2016 NCAA Championships continue for the Hooisers on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. ET with the finals of the 500 freestyle and the 400 medley relay.
