Team Effort Puts IU in Second Place at Briar’s Creek

JOHNS ISLAND, South Carolina – In a 18-team field that features eight teams ranked inside the top 50 in the country, the Indiana women's golf team is in second place at the Briar's Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in South Carolina.
The Hoosiers opened with a team score of 291 and followed that up with a 285 to give them a team score of 576 (Even), just three shots behind Florida, who is ranked No. 8 in the country.
Indiana got contributions from everyone in the lineup over the first two rounds, led by senior Camille Chevalier. She opened her day with a score of 74 in round one but quickly turned the page in the second round to post 4-under par 68, her third round in the 60s this season. Her total score of 142 has her in a tie for seventh place individually.
Just one shot behind Chevalier is Ana Sanjuan, who opened with a 69 before posting a 74 in her second round. Sanjuan started her first round with a birdie but bogeyed three of the last four holes with a birdie sandwiched in the middle to go out in 1-over. On her way in, she carded four birdies on her way to her second round in the 60s this season (67 in Las Vegas). Her total score of 143 has her in a tie for 10th place.
Pear Siriko got off to a rocky start in her first round, going 4-over in her first eight holes. But she would come back to birdie two of her final four holes to give her a 2-over par round of 74. Then in round two, she was two over through her first eight holes before reeling off four birdies and a bogey for a score of 71, matching her best single round score of the year and her career best. Her score of 145 over the two rounds has her tied for 18th.
Freshman Erin Harper also posted 74 in the first round with a double bogey on the back side the lone significant blemish on the card. In round two, she registered five birdies in addition to a double bogey and three bogeys en route to an even par round of 72 to tie for 21st with a total score of 146.
Alix Kong posted the fourth score of 74 in the first round for Indiana and then came back to register a 76 in her second round and is tied for 50th at 150 (+6).
Also at 6-over par is Theresa-Ann Jedra, who is playing as an individual. She began the tournament with a 74 in round one before coming back with a 76 in the afternoon to give her a total score of 150.
The final round gets underway on Tuesday morning at Briar's Creek starting at 8:45 a.m. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
