JOHNS ISLAND, South Carolina – The field at the Briar's Creek Invitational featured eight teams ranked inside the top 50 in this week's GolfStat rankings. When the dust settled on Tuesday afternoon, the Indiana Hoosiers had defeated seven of them on their way to a second place finish with a team score of 869.
The Hoosiers were 5-over par for the tournament, 11 shots behind No. 8 ranked Florida who finished in first place. Indiana defeated No. 12 Kent State, No. 20 Florida State, No. 26 Texas Tech, No. 30 Michigan State, No. 36 Louisville, No. 37 East Carolina and No. 47 Clemson.
The second place team finish is the best for the Hoosiers in a 54-hole event since they won the IU Invitational on April 13-14, 2013.
Senior Camille Chevalier's final round score of 3-under par 69 earned her fourth place on the individual leaderboard, the best tournament finish of her career.
In her round on Tuesday, Chevalier carded birdies on holes 6, 9 and 10 before a bogey on 13 was offset by a birdie on 15 to remain at 3-under par for the round.
For sophomore Pear Siriko, after registering bogey on three of her first five holes, she used a birdie-eagle stretch on holes 9 and 10 to get back to even par for the round. Then bogeys on 13 and 16 looked to derail the round before a birdie on 17 righted the ship on her way to a 73 in the final round. Her total score of 218 was good for a tie for 21st individually, the best individual finish of her career.
Freshman Erin Harper, she posted her fifth Top 30 individual finish of the year after a 74 in her final round put her overall score at 220 and a tie for 30th. The Dublin, Ohio, native was 3-over par after eight holes but started to right the ship with an eagle on the 10th hole. Following a bogey-birdie-bogey-bogey-bogey stretch, Harper figured things out and made two huge birdies on holes 16 and 18.
Ana Sanjuan was 1-under par through 12 holes in her final round, but some struggles over the final six holes resulted in a final round 77. Her total score for the tournament was 220 as well and tied for 30th.
Alix Kong also found some trouble on the back nine, as she played the stretch in 5-over par on her way to a 7-over par round of 79. Her overall score of 229 was tied for 70th individually.
Competing as an individual was Theresa-Ann Jedra, who closed her tournament with a 77 in the final round, giving her a total score of 227 and a tie for 61st.
The next tournament on the schedule for Indiana is a recently added event, the Crusader Challenge hosted by Valparaiso University on April 9-10.
