ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 58 Indiana men's tennis team fell 4-3 in a tight match Thursday afternoon against No. 65 Cornell at the Reis Tennis Center.
The afternoon for the Hoosiers (4-7) didn't start off on a high note as the Big Red (4-7) won at all three doubles spots.
In singles, IU's Sam Monette, ranked 37th nationally, got the Hoosiers going with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles. With the team match score knotted at 1-1, the Big Red eclipsed the Hoosiers with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
Despite a 3-1 deficit, the Hoosiers didn't give in just yet. At No. 2 singles Raheel Manji beat Colin Sinclair 6-3, 6-3 to keep the Hoosiers alive. The deficit would be no longer when IU's Matthew McCoy defeated Bernando Casares Rosa, 6-3, 6-2. The deciding match would lie at the No. 6 singles spot in which Karlo Lozic won two close sets for Cornell clinching the match victory for the Big Red.
The Hoosiers will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Princeton, N.J. tomorrow to take on the Princeton Tigers. That match will begin at 4 PM.
