Indiana’s All-American named top junior in his weight class
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Open Mat released Thursday their selections to the 2016 NCAA Wrestling All-Class teams, a compilation of the best wrestlers in each weight class with respect to their athletic year. Nate Jackson, after an All-American year and a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, found his name on the list of the All-Junior team.
Jackson cracks the list after his best-ever season in the Hoosiers' 2015-16 campaign. He posted a 35-9 overall record with bonus points in 23 of his wins. He earned a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, and followed that with a run to the national semifinals and a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
In Jackson's run through wrestling's culminating tournament, Jackson flew through the first three rounds with a trio of major decision wins. He only gave up three takedowns in his six matches.
Joining Jackson as the 174 lbs. honorees include freshman and NCAA Champion Myles Martin (Ohio State), sophomore Zach Epperly (Virginia Tech), and senior Casey Kent (Penn). All four grapplers finished in the top five at the NCAA Championships earlier this month.
