On a day that saw multiple stoppages in play due to weather, IU freshman Erin Harper carded a 2-under par 70 and is tied for first.
FAIRFAX, California – After battling the wind and rain for nearly the entire day, the Indiana women's golf team posted a team score of 304 on Monday and are tied for eighth place at the Bay Area Intercollegiate at the Meadow Club near San Francisco.
Play was stopped due to weather three times during the day, which as forced the tournament to be shortened to a 36-hole event, with the final round taking place on Tuesday.
The top individual performance was once against freshman Erin Harper, who managed her way around the course in difficult conditions to post 2-under par (70) in her first round and is tied for first place. She was even on the front nine with two birdies and two bogeys and was still even as she moved to the 16th hole. Following a brief weather delay, Harper returned to the course and carded birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to get to 2-under par.
For Harper, it is her fourth straight round of par or better and seventh overall for the season.
After a rocky front nine for senior Camille Chevalier, she steadied herself on the back nine to post a solid 5-over par round of 77 and is tied for 32nd. Also posting a 77 in round one was Pear Siriko, who went out at 4-over but pulled things together on the back nine and was just one over.
Ana Sanjuan and Alix Kong both logged rounds of 80 on Monday, and both went similar routes to get there. Sanjuan closed her front nine by going 6-over on the final four holes, but she came back on the second nine and played them just 1-over in all. Kong was 6-over when she made the turn and played the back in 2-over par with a pair of birdies on 12 and 13.
The final round will get underway on Tuesday morning and live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
