Track to Compete in Big Ten v ACC Challenge
The Indiana Track and Field team will be participating in the Louisville Invitational (Big Ten v ACC Challenge) this weekend. Five other teams will also be competing: Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Purdue.
Head Coach Ron Helmer is excited to see what his team can do this weekend. "This is traditionally the meet that we start to put everything together as a team. We start to round into form and put up big numbers."
With the high level of competition at this meet it will be important for the Hoosiers to perform at their best. Notre Dame was one of the top indoor teams in the nation this past season and the Purdue women's team finished second at the conference meet.
Two events will be completed on Friday. The women's hammer throw will begin at 2:30PM and will be followed by the men's hammer throw at 5:00PM. Both Laura Schroeder and Nakel McClinton will be competing in the hammer this weekend. Each athlete has broken the other's school record this season.
Saturday will feature a full slate of action. The meet will begin with the men's discus at 11:00AM. Both the men's and women's long jump will start at 11:30AM. The women's pole vault has a start time of noon.
The running events will begin with the women's 100m hurdles prelims at noon with the finals being held at 2:50PM. The Hoosiers will be well represented in the men's and women's 1,500m run, sending 17 runners to the start line. The women's race will begin at 2:15PM followed by the men's at 2:30PM. Running events will conclude, as usual, with the men's 4x400m relay at 5:45PM.
