Track Hosts In-State Rival Purdue
Indiana will host Purdue this weekend in a dual meet. The two teams met in West Lafayette during the indoor season and split the meet. The Hoosiers handled the men's team but fell to the women's team. Both teams also competed in the Big Ten v ACC Challenge last weekend. Purdue's men's team won the meet, edging out the second place Hoosiers. The IU women's team placed second, which was ahead of Purdue's fourth place effort.
This will be the first outdoor meet held at the Billy Hayes Track at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex, and the first home meet in Bloomington in over two months.
The meet will begin at 4:00PM with the women's hammer throw. Nakel McClinton and Laura Schroeder both rank inside the top five in the eastern regional. Indiana will look to score big points in the pole vault with Dylan Anderson, Sydney Clute, and Sophie Gutermuth among the six Hoosier competitors. The women's pole vault will begin at 4:30PM. The field events will conclude with the shot put, which starts at 6:00PM. Both Willie Morrison and David Schall will throw for Indiana.
Running events will start at 4:15PM with the women's 3,000m steeplechase. IU will load up on the middle distances once again in this meet. Twenty-one student-athletes will run in either the 800m or 1,500m. The 1,500m run will begin just after 5:00PM. Brenna Calder and Brianna Johnson both rank in the top ten in school history and will run in the event. The 800m run will start at 6:00PM. Daniel Kuhn, who holds the second fastest outdoor time in school history, will be running in the event.
The meet will conclude with the men's 4x400m relay. Both schools will send two teams to the start line. The race is slated to begin at 7:25PM.
