BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Amateur Wrestling News announced Wednesday the 30 grapplers selected to their 2016 All-Rookie Team. After his outstanding breakout year, Indiana freshman Elijah Oliver was one of three selections in the 125 lbs. class.
Oliver was 32-10 in his first season with Indiana, and earned bonus points in 17 of his wins. He finished the 2015-16 regular season with a +34 dual point differential and five podium finishes at tournaments, including championships at the Keystone Classic and LHU Classic.
At the Big Ten Championships, Oliver grappled to a fifth-place finish after opening the weekend as the fifth seed. After bowing out of the championship bracket in the second round, the Hoosier battled back with wins over two NCAA Qualifiers, including a decision over All-American Conor Youtsey in the fifth-place bout.
Oliver became Indiana's first NCAA qualifier at 125 lbs. since Joe Duca (2013) after a strong outing in Iowa City. He opened the tournament with an 8-2 win over Sean McCabe (Rutgers).
According to AWN, Oliver's overall record of 32-10 was the best win-loss ratio for any freshman in his weight class this season.
