Senior Kyle Hart picked up his sixth victory of the season in a six inning effort. The lefty struck out four in the win. Sophomore Logan Sowers led the Hoosiers offensively with a 3-for-5 performance and drove in three runs. Junior Craig Dedelow and sophomore Lauren Eustace each had two-RBI games, while senior Brian Wilhite had Indiana's other multi-hit day at the plate with a 2-for-3 showing and drove in one run.
Hart worked around a lead-off single in the top of the first and retired the next three Boilermakers in order. The Hoosiers strung together three hits in the bottom of the second to take an initial 1-0 lead. Freshman Luke Miller stroked a one out-double to left-center field, missing his first career home run by inches, and advanced to third on Wilhite's single. He came around to score on a double through the right side by Eustace.
Purdue came back in the top of the third to tie the game on a passed ball but a seven-run bottom of the third gave Indiana a an 8-1 lead. After Sowers and freshman Ryan Fineman each singled to start the frame, sophomore Alex Krupa reached base on a fielding miscue to load the bases. A walk to Miller and an RBI single by Wilhite plated two more Hoosier runs, while Indiana tacked on another run off a sacrifice fly by junior Tony Butler. Sowers capped off the inning with a bases-clearing double the left-center field that drove in three runs.
After a quick 1-2-3 inning for the Boilermakers in the visiting half of the fourth, Purdue struck for four runs in the fifth to trim the deficit to 8-5.
Location issues plagued Purdue in the seventh Indiana drove in two runs with bases loaded walks to up its lead to 10-5.
Despite allowing four runs in the ninth, Indiana held on for the 10-9 win.
Indiana and Purdue continue its three-game series tomorrow afternoon with a first pitch time set for 2:05 p.m from Bart Kaufman Field.
