Hoosiers Fall to Penn State

The Nittany Lions (19-16, 8-2 Big Ten) put up a pair of runs in the first inning on as Alyssa VanDerveer knocked an RBI single and Shannon Good was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Indiana (21-16, 4-6 Big Ten) quickly responded in the bottom of the frame as senior Katelyn Conenna knocked a three-run homer to right field with two outs. Sophomore Rebecca Blitz led off the inning with a single to short before junior CaraMia Tsirigos earned a walk to set the stage for Conenna's home run.
However, Penn State quickly responded in the next inning with a solo shot by Reina Furuya to tie the game before a sacrifice fly from Shelby Miller gave the Nittany Lions a 4-3 advantage. They pushed their lead to 7-3 in the fourth as Penn State knocked a pair of RBI singles and a two-run double.
Sophomore Taylor Uden earned a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the fourth, followed by a single from senior Kassi Farmer. A sacrifice bunt by sophomore Rachel O'Malley put both in scoring position to set the stage for freshman Sarah Galovich, who singled back to the pitcher to plate Uden. Next batter, Blitz hit a liner back to the circle to score Farmer to cut the deficit to 7-5.
The Nittany Lions then put up a four-run fifth inning via four hits and a pair of infield fielding errors by the Hoosiers. They tacked on another run in the sixth on an RBI groundout before Indiana answered with a pair of runs on a Penn State fielding error and a bases-loaded walk.
Penn State's final runs came in the seventh as an RBI groundout and two-run homer by VanDerveer made it 15-7.
The final game of the series is set for Sunday at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
