Schroeder Crowned Big Ten Champion

Laura Schroeder won the Big Ten Championship for the women's hammer throw. On her first throw of the evening she hit a new personal best with a mark of 63.94m (209ft-10in). Just one throw later she uncorked a 64.99m (213ft-3in) throw to secure the conference championship.
With good reason, Assistant Coach Cory Martin was very proud of his group. "Having the top two finishers at the conference championship is such a great accomplishment. I am proud of the way they have battled this season, and how they competed tonight."
Schroeder echoed her coach's comments. "I am excited that Nakel and I were able to accomplish our goal for the meet of finishing first and second."
Nakel McClinton finished just behind her teammate in the hammer throw with a mark of 62.64m (205ft-6in). The two combined for 18 points in the event. Andrew Miller picked up two points for the on the men's side in the hammer throw with a heave of 62.46m (204-11ft).
Matt Schwartzer finished third in the men's 10,000m run with a time of 29:48.15. He used a mid-race move to position himself to make a final push finish in the top three. His time is the tenth best in school history.
In the decathlon, Chase Pacheco finds himself in seventh after five events scored. He made a late surge after a great 400m dash run to close out day one. Andrew Huber is 15th. Five events will be completed tomorrow.
After day one, and four events scored, Michelle Adeniyi is in ninth place in the heptathlon. The remaining three events will be run tomorrow.
Chanli Mundy finished 16th in the women's 10,000m run with a time of 35:50.12.
Action will resume tomorrow with the multi events starting at 10:30AM EST.
