CRCA Announces All-Region, Scholar-Athletes

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced its annual all-region teams along with their Scholar-Athlete honorees on Thursday (May 26) and the Hoosiers had a number of athletes receive recognition. Senior Rebecca Brougher was named to the First Team All-Region while Emily Barber earned Second Team All-Region distinction.
Nominated student-athletes for all-region are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. The athletes that receive all-region honors will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
Brougher is a member of the 1V8 crew that will be competing at the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year. She was also named First Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten Rowing Athlete of the Year and received the Spirit of Indiana Director's Award this year.
Barber is also a member of the 1V8 crew that will be competing in Sacramento this week, and she was named Second Team All-Big Ten following the conference championship two weeks ago.
Receiving Scholar-Athlete honors for the Hoosiers were Barber, Lindsey Barber, Alexandra Eaton and Alessia Uhle.
Here are the requirements to be named a CRCA Scholar-Athlete:
• The student-athlete has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
• The student-athlete was in her 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of eligibility
• The student-athlete rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
• The Head Coach of the student-athletes institution was a member in good standing of the CRCA as of May 1, 2016.
• The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
Indiana will begin competition at the 2016 NCAA Championships tomorrow (May 27) at 12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT at the Sacramento State Aquatics Center. A full preview with links to live video stream and live results can be found by clicking here.
