BRYAN, Texas – After two rounds of the NCAA Regional at the Traditions Club Golf Course, the Indiana women's golf team remains in 15th place heading into Saturday's final round. The Hoosiers improved their team score by seven shots from Thursday's round, using a 298 in round two to give them a total score of 603.
The Hoosiers were led by senior Camille Chevalier's 2-under par 70 on Friday, leaving her at 1-over par for the tournament and a tie for 24th place individually. It marks the seventh time in the last 12 rounds that she has finished under par and overall it is the 11th time she has carded a round under par this season.
Chevalier's opening nine holes were clean and efficient, opening with three pars before a birdie on the par 4 13th hole. She then rattled off four more pars before a birdie on No. 18 moved her to 2-under par. After bogeys on her 10th and 12th holes put her back at even par, she tallied a birdie on her 14th hole to get back under par. She then closed the round with an outstanding iron shot into the green from _____ on hole No. 9, leaving just a tap-in birdie for a 70.
Junior Ana Sanjuan trimmed two shots off her round one score, registering a 75 on Friday and is 5-over par for the tournament and tied for 63rd. The native of Spain began her round with a bogey on hole No. 10 but got back to even par with a birdie on the par 5 15th hole. From there, she ran into some trouble and logged a bogey and a double bogey to make the turn at 3-over par. Her her back nine – the front side of the course on the scorecard – she again started with a bogey but played the final eight holes in 1-under par and nearly made a birdie on her final hole.
Erin Harper, a freshman from Dublin, Ohio, hit numerous solid iron shots on her first nine holes, but was just not able to get any putts to drop and made the turn at 1-over par. She also bogeyed the first hole of her back nine but got that shot back with a birdie on her 13th hole. However, a triple bogey on her final hole derailed an otherwise solid round to give her a score of 77 on the day and match Sanjuan in a tie for 63rd.
For the second day in a row, Theresa-Ann Jedra started out solid on her first nine holes, posting eight pars and one bogey. But her back nine was a little more up and down, as she came in at 3-over par to post a 76 for the round. She is tied for 71st at 10-over par for the tournament entering the final round.
Alix Kong posted a score of 87 on Friday and is tied for 94th through two rounds.
The top six teams and top three individuals not on a team advancing after Sunday's final round will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on May 20.
The second round pairings will have the Hoosiers tee off from No. 10 at 9:00 a.m. CT. Hole-by-hole live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
