Hoosiers Drop Regular Season Finale to Maryland, 10-8

The Terrapins jumped to a 6-0 second-inning lead before the Hoosiers climbed back to tie it. However, a Maryland grand slam in the fifth inning proved to seal the win.
After the first five Hoosiers went down in order, senior Kelsey Dotson knocked a two-out single through the middle. Sophomore Taylor Uden followed that up with a double to right center, but a groundout ended the threat.
Maryland then registered four RBI doubles and a single in the home half of the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. Kylie Datil brought in the first two runs on her double, followed by knocks from Lindsey Schmeiser, Skylynne Ellazer and Kristina Dillard before an RBI single by Sarah Lang plated the sixth Terrapin run.
However, Indiana quickly responded with a huge inning of its own as the Hoosiers scored five runs, all with two outs on the board. After freshman Sarah Galovich doubled to lead off the frame, a fly out moved her to third base, allowing redshirt senior Shannon Cawley to bring her in on a single up the middle. Walks to junior CaraMia Tsirigos and senior Michelle Huber loaded the bags for senior Kelsey Dotson, who reached via a fielding error, giving Cawley the opportunity to score. Uden continued her big day with a two-run single on a bloop shot to shallow center, plating Huber and Tsirigos. The final Hoosier run of the frame came off the bat of sophomore Rachel O'Malley, who singled to bring Dotson home.
IU tied up the game in the following inning as Blitz scored after an errant throw on attempt to get Cawley out at first base.
Following a pair of singles and walk to load the bases in the fifth, freshman pitcher Tara Trainer stepped into relieve sophomore Emily Kirk in the circle. She retired the first two she faced before Ellazer knocked a grand slam on a full count to give Maryland a 10-6 lead.
Galovich looked to get a rally going for Indiana in the sixth as she led off the frame with her second hit of the game on a single to left. However, a pair of fielder's choices and a shallow pop up ended the threat.
The Hoosiers did tack on a pair of runs in the final inning as Huber knocked her third homer of the series on a solo shot to left. O'Malley then brought in her second run of the game on a single to plate Dotson.
Up next, Indiana will travel to University Park, Pa. for the Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers will face Wisconsin on Thursday at 8 p.m in the first round.
