BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – Senior Rebecca Brougher continued to add to her impressive list of awards and honors on Friday when she was named to the 2016 Pocock All-American Second Team by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
It marks the fifth All-American honor for an IU rower in the last five seasons, joining Asja Zero (2012), Meradith Dickensheets (2014, 2015) and Alice Wright (2015). All totaled, Brougher is the sixth individual to receive All-American accolades at Indiana with Laura Lazaridis (2005, 2006) and Ellie Benson (2008) joining Zero, Dickensheets and Wright.
The general requirements for nominating a student-athlete for CRCA post-season honors are:
-The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
-The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75 percent of the current spring season's races in the varsity boat (before and including May 19, 2016)
– The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution
– The Head Coach of the student-athlete's institution must be a member in good standing of the CRCA
The nominated student-athletes are then selected to 1st and 2nd teams based on the following criteria:
– Strength of finish of the institution's varsity eight within the country
– Coach comments
– 2k erg score
In addition to the All-American distinction, Brougher was named Big Ten Rowing Co-Athlete of the Year, CRCA First Team All-Region and First Team All-Big Ten as a member of the First Varsity 8 crew. Her efforts helped the Hoosiers earn their third straight trip to the NCAA Championships, where they finished 15th.
She also claimed the Spirit of Indiana Director's Award, which is given out annually to the student-athlete at Indiana that best demonstrates the athletic department mantra of "24 Sports, 1 Team".
