BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Indiana RHP Evan Bell signed a rookie free agent deal with the Chicago White Sox on Saturday morning. He becomes the fifth Hoosier from the 2016 roster that was either drafted or signed on with an MLB organization.
Bell appeared in Indiana's weekend rotation for the entire 2016 campaign, splitting time as the Hoosiers' Saturday and Sunday starter. He tied Kyle Hart for team lead with two complete games during the season, which included a three-hitter against Illinois on May 15. Bell hurled 85.2 innings for Indiana in 2016, while posting a 3.36 ERA, helping the Hoosiers to a team ERA that currently ranks 11th in the country.
For his career, Bell posted a 3.44 ERA in 62 appearances and 20 starts. He logged 186 innings at Indiana and struck out 115 batters to go along with seven career victories.
With Bell signing on with the White Sox, Indiana now ties for the Big Ten lead this year in pitchers either drafted or signing a rookie free agent contract with an MLB organization with four.
