Hoosiers Sweep NKU in Season Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A mix of senior leaders and newcomers to the Indiana volleyball program led the Hoosiers to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-12) win over Northern Kentucky at University Gym on Friday night.
Senior Allison Hammond tallied 11 kills and four aces, including a stretch in the first set where she scored on three consecutive aces.
"As a team we set goals for each match and this match one of our goals was to come out strong," Hammond said. "We came out and did our job and got a good three set win tonight."
Redshirt freshman Kendall Beerman in her first action for the Hoosiers (1-0) connected for 11 kills on 20 attempts to hit a blistering .550 hitting efficiency.
Freshman middle blocker Deyshia Lofton also made an impact in her first collegiate match with four kills, four blocks and two aces.
Senior Megan Tallman paced the offense with 24 assists and Taylor Lebo anchored the defense with 14 of the Hoosiers 27 digs.
The Hoosiers offense ran smoothly throughout the match with only eight attack errors. The offensive efficiency was on special display in the third set with 15 kills and one error for a .538 hitting efficiency.
The Indiana service game created problems for Northern Kentucky as the Hoosiers served up nine aces and held the Norse to a .099 hitting efficiency compared to a .412 mark by Indiana.
Up next the Hoosiers take on Evansville tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. and Marshall at 7:00 p.m.
