SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana University Hoosiers men's soccer team will face the UC Irvine Anteaters on Sunday at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament on Sunday.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET at Alumni Stadium in South Bend, Ind. Live stats for the match can be found at IUHoosiers.com.

SETTING THE SCENE
• The No. 13-ranked Indiana Hoosiers started the 2016 campaign with a 1-0 win over the New Mexico Lobos on Friday at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament.
• The Hoosiers enter the 2016 season coming off another terrific season in 2015, reaching the NCAA Tournament for a record 29-straight season and 40th overall in program history.
• IU earned a national seed for the 11th time in the last 13 years, beating UConn before falling to No. 1 Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
• The Hoosiers are looking to start the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 2012.
• This weekend's tournament marks the first time that Indiana has opened a season away from Bloomington since 2012, when the Hoosiers beat Saint Louis and Cincinnati in the SLU Tournament. IU would go on to win the program's eighth national title that season.
NEWS AND NOTES
• Senior MF Tanner Thompson and junior D Grant Lillard were two of 30 players named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in July. Indiana is one of just four schools in the nation to have two players on the prestigious list, joining UCLA, Seattle and Boston University. Thompson and Lillard are two of three Big Ten players on the list, along with Rutgers' Jason Wright.
• Tanner Thompson and Grant Lillard were both unanimous preseason All-America selections, as both were honored by College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer.
• Grant Lillard was also named the top defender in the nation in a preseason poll conducted by Top Drawer soccer of the nation's head coaches.
• The Hoosiers return nine starters from last year's team that made the Sweet Sixteen, including All-America honoree Tanner Thompson and All-Big Ten award winners Grant Lillard, Andrew Gutman and Francesco Moore.
• After qualifying for the NCAA Tournament last year, the Hoosiers extended their streak to 29-straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
SCOUTING THE ANTEATERS
• The UC Irvine Anteaters come in to 2016 looking to improve off a 2015 campaign that saw UCI post a record of 5-11-4.
• The Anteaters lost a season opener for the first time in 12 years on Friday, dropping a 4-0 decision to No. 9 Notre Dame.
• UC Irvine was picked to tie for second place in the Big West South Division with Cal State Northridge and just behind Cal State Fullerton.
• The Anteaters boast two Preseason All-Big West selections in senior D Thomas Janjigian and senior MF Michael Sperber.
SERIES HISTORY
• In the overall history between Indiana and UC Irvine, the two teams played to a draw in the one and only meeting.
• The teams tied, 1-1, on Sept. 15, 2013 in Bloomington.
THOMPSON NETS LATE PENALTY TO BEAT LOBOS
• With just 30 seconds left in regulation, Tanner Thompson converted a penalty kick to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 win over New Mexico on Aug. 26.
• The penalty was called after a UNM defender lifted his arms to defend a chip shot from Grant Lillard.
HOOSIERS IN THE NATIONAL POLLS
• The Hoosiers enter the season ranked No. 13 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer, No. 14 by College Soccer News and No. 15 by the NSCAA.
• Last year the Hoosiers finished the season ranked No. 15 by the NSCAA and No. 17 in the NCAA RPI.

• IU junior Grant Lillard was named the No. 4 player in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer - the highest-ranked defender in the country and the top-ranked Big Ten player.
• Tanner Thompson was ranked No. 17 in the nation overall and the eighth-best midfielder.
PRESEASON BIG TEN HONORS
• The Hoosiers were picked to finish second in the Big Ten in a poll conducted of the league's coaches, behind only Maryland.
• MF Tanner Thompson, D Grant Lillard and D Andrew Gutman were named to the B1G Preseason Honors List.
