The Hoosiers will take the mat in the shadows of Memorial Stadium before Saturday’s football game against Wake Forest
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana wrestling team will hold their Fan Fest Wrestling Clinic on Saturday, September 24 prior to the Indiana football game versus Wake Forest. The Hoosiers will be outside and on the mats in the orange lot, adjacent to Mellencamp Pavilion, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET.
The fan-friendly clinic will provide Hoosier fans an insider's perspective on the happenings inside coach Duane Goldman's wrestling room, which has produced three NCAA Champions, four Big Ten Champions, and 29 NCAA All-Americans in the last 24 seasons. It's also a chance for the team to let fans know about the 2017 Big Ten Championships, which will take place on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 in Assembly Hall.
"It's going to be a beautiful day for football, so we want to get out there and wrestle and give fans a little preseason view of our guys," Goldman said. "We hope they can take in the excitement and feel the presence of wrestling, and hopefully they'll come to our home matches and look to attend the Big Ten Championships."
For the first time since 2006, the Big Ten Championships will make their home in Bloomington. The tournament weekend will be held inside the newly renovated Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, and is sure to feature some of the nation's top contenders for the ensuing NCAA Championships.
"It's a miniature NCAA Championships," Goldman said about the Big Ten Championships. "These are wrestlers from the best teams in the country, and they start facing each other in the very first round. It's a great showcase and an exciting event. Get your tickets early, because there's a good chance they will sell out."
The team will provide fans with schedule cards of Indiana's 2016-17 home dual schedule, which includes matches against Wisconsin (12/9), a triad versus Buffalo and Indiana Tech (12/18), Minnesota (1/22), Nebraska (1/29), and Iowa (2/10). Admission to Indiana's home duals, which take place at the University Gymnasium, is free to the public.
Tickets for the upcoming Big Ten Championships are expected to go on sale in early November. Stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com, and follow IU Wrestling on Twitter for updates on ticket sales and all things Indiana Wrestling.
