GLENVIEW, Illinois – In the final round of the Windon Memorial, the Indiana men's golf team posted a team score of 302, which left them in 11th place with a totals core 896 over the 54-hole event at North Shore County Club near Chicago.
The top individual performance went to senior Keegan Vea, who used a final round 75 to finish the tournament with a score of 221 (+5) and a tie for 21st place. It's his first Top 25 since the second to last tournament of the 2015-16 season (Boilermaker Invitational) and the eighth Top 25 of his career.
"It was nice to have Keegan back in the lineup and to see him play well," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "He showed why he belongs in the lineup and now we need him to continue to build off of this as we continue throughout the season."
The Hoosiers all began their rounds going off No. 10 tee and Vea got out to a quick start with birdies on holes 11 and 13 to get to 2-under par. But he gave those two shots back with bogeys on 16 and 17 and made the turn at even par. He was able to post two more birdies on his back nine but a handful of bogeys offset those on his way to a 3-over par 75.
Another senior, Andrew Havill, made it three straight tournaments with Top 30 or better finishes after coming in tied for 29th with an overall score of 224 this week. He posted the best round of the day for an IU player on Monday, using an eagle and a birdie on his way to a 2-over par round of 74.
Freshman Brock Ochsenreiter and redshirt sophomore Jake Brown both earned a tie for 45th with their total scores of 228. Ochsenreiter carded a 78 in his final round while Brown was two shots better with a 76.
Junior Brendon Doyle rounded out the lineup with a 78 in his final round to give him a tie for 60th and a score of 231.
Indiana will be off this week before returning to action at the Northern Intercollegiate, hosted by Northern Illinois University, at Beverly Country Club outside Chicago on Oct. 9-10.
