Indiana Set for No. 18 Virginia Tech, JMU

FACING THE HOKIES
The 18th-ranked Hokies are 5-1-0 on the year with victories against LSU, Mississippi State, East Carolina, James Madison and William & Mary. The lone loss of the year came against Ohio State last Thursday. Virginia Tech has netted 13 goals while surrendering just five. Alani Johnson and Murielle Tiernan lead the way with four goals apiece. Tiernan is currently Virginia Tech's all-time leader in goals and points, while being named a 2015 NSCAA third team All-American. In goal, Mandy McGlynn has 17 saves with a 0.85 goals against average.
IU and Virginia Tech last met in 2015 in the season opener in Bloomington. Tiernan scored both goals as the Hokies came away with a 2-1 victory.
DUKING IT OUT AGAINST JMU
The Dukes are 1-5-0 on the season, including a 1-0 victory against Liberty on Sunday. Ashley Herndon, Haley Crawford and Christine Tack have each scored a pair of goals on the year to lead the offensive attack. Olivia Miller has played every minute in goal with 24 saves and a 2.61 goals against average.
Sunday's game will be the first time the Hoosiers and JMU have played in history.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers dropped a pair of games over the weekend, falling to LSU on Friday, 3-0, and SMU on Monday afternoon, 1-2.
Senior Veronica Ellis scored her first goal of the year against the Mustangs in the 11th minute. It was the Naperville native's sixth career score.
SIX GOALS, SIX GOAL SCORERS
All six of Indiana's goals this season have come from different players with Ellis, Annelie Leitner, Caroline Dreher, Mykayla Brown, Cassidy Blacha and Maya Piper all finding the back of the net. Dreher also picked up an assist against Northern Colorado to lead the team in points with three.
FRESHMEN MAKING AN IMPACT
The Hoosiers have seen an immediate impact from its newcomers with eight freshmen seeing action in Monday's game against SMU. Macy Miller, a native of Carmel, Ind. leads the team in shots with 11 and shots on goal with five. In addition, Chandra Davidson is tied for third in shots with eight on the year. Five Hoosier freshmen have made multiple starts so far this season, including five freshmen starters on Monday.
Freshmen goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedieu currently sits at second in the Big Ten in saves per game with five and is tied for second in total saves with 25.
WHAT'S AHEAD IN 2016?
The 2016 schedule features 11 total games against participants in the 2015 NCAA Tournament and nine opponents who finished last season ranked in the top 50 of the RPI.
The non-conference portion of the slate includes eight games, with six opponents advancing to the tournament last year and four winning their conference championship.
Big Ten play will see Indiana face off against five NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, including National Champion Penn State and Women's College Cup semifinalist Rutgers.
In the latest NSCAA Poll, six of Indiana's 2016 opponents are ranked - No. 10 Minnesota, No. 16 Penn State, No. 18 Virginia Tech, No. 19 Ohio State, No. 23 Rutgers and No. 24 Northwestern.
2016 CAPTAINS
Redshirt senior Marissa Borschke, senior Veronica Ellis and junior Kayla Smith have been named captains for the 2016 season. Borschke was also a captain last season. In addition to being tabbed as captains, the trio were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors list, marking the second season in a row for Smith and Borschke.
