
Three Hoosiers Grab Wins Against No. 11 Minnesota

Jackson picks up 94th career victory
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana wrestling team set out in their third Big Ten dual of the season on Sunday afternoon against No. 11 Minnesota at University Gymnasium. The Gophers (5-3, 4-2) utilized a strong start with bonus points to take a 28-9 dual victory over the Hoosiers (7-5, 0-3).
Three grapplers scored dual wins in Sunday's proceedings. Chris Perez (149) improved to 3-0 against Big Ten dual opponents with a 4-2 decision over Carson Brolsma. No. 6 Nate Jackson (184) picked up win No. 94 of his career in a 10-6 decision against Bobby Steveson, and No. 17 Devin Skatzka (174) scored his first career Big Ten dual win versus Chris Pfarr, 11-8.
Perez (7-4, 3-0) got the Hoosiers their first dual points of the meet to continue an unbeaten start to Big Ten dual competition. It began with Perez's takedown, the only one of the match, followed by Brolsma's escape before the end of the first period. Perez broke a 2-2 tie in the third period with an escape and the riding time point to stamp the win.
In the ninth bout of the day, Skatzka (19-6, 1-2) broke through for his first conference dual win, an 11-8 decision over Chris Pfarr. It was a hard-fought match with points aplenty, starting with a nine-point first period in Skatzka's favor. The freshman scored another takedown in the second to maintain a one point lead, and he finished with two breakouts and a takedown to pull away.
Jackson (22-2, 3-0) took the mat for the final bout of the day and picked up his 94th career victory in a 10-4 decision over Bobby Steveson. After scoring two takedowns in the first period. Jackson posted a 3-0 shutout in the second period to pile on riding time. A takedown in the third and his riding point spread the deficit.
A couple of Hoosiers came close to swinging the momentum but fell short in the final seconds. Cole Weaver (141) trailed 3-0 to No. 11 Tommy Thorn with a chance to even the match, but couldn't break free of the ride. Bryce Martin (165) scored a late reversal to tie his bout with No. 11 Nick Wanzek, yet he was unable to push past Wanzek's decisive riding point.

The Big Ten dual season hits the road again, starting a three-week stretch with two duals in each weekend. Next weekend, the Hoosiers begin with a return to Welsh-Ryan Arena for a dual meet with the Northwestern Wildcats. Indiana hopes to snap a five-meet losing streak to the Wildcats while picking up their first dual win at Northwestern since 2010.
The meet presents a handful of exciting probable matchups. Jackson and #20 Mitch Sliga face a rematch from the Midlands Championships, in which Jackson took a 14-3 major decision win. Perez is set to meet Shayne Oster, off to a 9-7 start, in the 149 lbs. bout.
