Hoosiers Tackle Tough Conditions With Strong Final Round at Crooked Stick

CARMEL, Indiana – Tuesday's final round of the Crooked Stick Invitational saw the winds pick up and the course dry out, which made for higher scores on an already difficult course. But that didn't stop the Indiana men's golf team from posting a team score of 295 (+7) – the fifth-best round of the day by any team – to finish in a tie for seventh place.

Indiana was led by Jake Brown, who carded a final round 75 to tie for second place at 1-under par for the tournament. Brown began his day with a birdie on his first hole but played the rest of the round 4-over par. The second-place finish is the second straight top 10 finish for the Carmel native and the third top 2 finish of his career. It is also the second consecutive tournament where he has finished under par after doing it only once in his previous 24 career tournaments.

Brock Ochsenreiter shot a 72 in his third round, matching Brendon Doyle for the best round of the day for IU. The even par round gave Ochsenreiter a tie for 14th place at 2-over par and his second top 20 finish in as many tournaments.

Doyle moved up the leaderboard in the final round with his 72, which put him at 9-over par for the tournament and a tie for 38th.

Jack Sparrow recorded the fourth score that counted towards the team score on Tuesday, closing with a 76 to finish at 13-over par and a tie for 48th.

Freshman Ethan Shepherd's final round 81 put him a tie for 54th at 17-over par overall.

The Hoosiers also had three individuals competing and they were highlighted by freshman Evan Yakubov's tie for 14th place following a 79 in the final round to leave him at 2-over par overall after entering the final round with a tie for first place.

Junior Trevor Ranton tied for 54th at 17-over par following his 78 in the third round while sophomore Evan Gaesser finished in 64th place at 26-over par.

Indiana will be off until they travel to Hawaii for the Ka'anapali Classic in Maui from Nov. 3-5.
