INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 1-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team played the No. 19 Butler Bulldogs to a 0-0 draw in front of a Sellick Bowl record crowd of 6,105 in Indianapolis on Wednesday night.
With the scoreless draw, the Hoosiers move to 12-0-3 on the season overall, while Butler goes to 8-4-1 on the year. IU is undefeated through the team's first 15 matches for a fifth time in program history and for the first time since 1997.
Freshman goalkeeper Trey Muse and the Hoosiers posted the team's ninth-straight shutout on Wednesday night, extending the scoreless streak to 889:37 minutes. Muse ranks seventh in NCAA history in consecutive scoreless minutes after blanking the Bulldogs for 110 minutes on Wednesday.
Muse made three saves to record his NCAA-leading 13th shutout of the season. The Louisville, Ky. native ranks in a tie for sixth place on Indiana's single-season shutout list.
On the offensive end, Trevor Swartz led the team with three shots, getting one on goal. Freshman Griffin Dorsey had a pair of shots for the Hoosiers.
In the opening half, teams alternated controlling possession as the match got more physical as time went. In the opening half, Cory Thomas had the best scoring opportunity for the Hoosiers, but his effort missed just high from 10-yards out.
In the first 45 minutes, Butler out-shot Indiana, 6-2, with the Bulldogs getting the only shot on-goal. Corner kicks were even at 3-3.
In the second half, IU came out aggressive on both ends of the pitch. On the offensive side, the Hoosiers out-shot the Bulldogs, 4-2, in the frame. Indiana had one shot in both the first and second overtime.
Defensively, the Hoosiers clamped down in both the second half and both overtime periods, not letting Butler take a shot for the final 41:27 minutes.
For the match, shots were even at 8-8, while Butler got three shots on-goal to just one for IU. Corner kicks were 6-3 in favor of Indiana.
The No. 1 Hoosiers will return to Bloomington on Saturday, Oct. 21 to host Big Ten rival Wisconsin on Senior Night at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
