No. 1 Hoosiers Earn Draw at No. 7 Michigan State, 1-1

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The No. 1-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team played the No. 7 Michigan State Spartans to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon in East Lansing, Mich.
With the draw, Indiana finishes the regular season undefeated for just the third time in school history with an overall record of 13-0-4 and a Big Ten conference mark of 5-0-3. Michigan State moves to 11-2-3 on the year and to 5-0-3 in conference play.
IU will be the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will host Penn State on Sunday, Nov. 5 in the quarterfinals at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium at 4:00 p.m. ET live on BTN.
Trevor Swartz netted his third goal of the season for the Hoosiers, converting a penalty kick in the 25th minute. In goal, freshman Trey Muse made three saves for IU. Muse and the Hoosier defense tied the school record set in 1979 for goals allowed in a regular season, surrendering just four scores.
In the 25th minute, the Hoosiers were on the attack. Mason Toye made a great move in the 18-yard box to get space, but was taken down by a MSU defender to earn a penalty kick. Swartz stepped to the spot and buried his effort, giving IU a 1-0 lead.
At the half, Indiana continued to lead Michigan State, 1-0. The Hoosiers out-shot the Spartans, 8-4, in the first half, getting four shots on-goal to one for MSU. Corner kicks were 3-2 for Michigan State.
In the 61st minute, Michigan State earned a penalty kick of their own and tied the match at 1-1, as Ryan Sierakowksi converted.
For the match, Indiana out-shot the Spartans, 19-12, with IU getting six shots on-goal to four for MSU. Corner kicks were even at 6-6.
