BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana true freshman wide receiver Whop Philyor earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced today. Philyor shared the award with Michigan State wide receiver Cody White.
Philyor is the second Hoosier (Morgan Ellison vs. Georgia Southern) to collect the award in 2017. Additionally, return specialist J-Shun Harris II received B1G Special Teams Player of the Week accolades in back-to-back weeks (Virginia and Georgia Southern).
The Tampa native recorded career-highs with 13 receptions for 127 yards and an 11-yard touchdown at Maryland. His 13 catches are an IU true freshman record and tied for the fourth-highest, single-game total in program history.
Philyor's yardage is the most for a Hoosier true freshman since O.J. Conner (140) against Ball State on Sept. 13, 1997. He became the fourth true freshman (5th time) in IU history to reach the century mark (Conner - twice, Tandon Doss, Ernie Jones).
On the season, Philyor owns 21 receptions for 187 yards and a pair of scores.
Indiana returns to action on Saturday when it hosts No. 4/4 Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for noon EDT on ABC. Tickets are available by clicking here, by phone at 1-866-IUSPORTS or in person at the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Ticket Office.
