
Beerman Reaches 500 Career Kills in Setback at No. 1 Penn State

COLLEGE PARK, Pa. – Sophomore Kendall Beerman recorded her 500th career kill but the Indiana volleyball team came up short on the road at No. 1 Penn State in three sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) on Wednesday at Rec Hall.
Beerman led the Hoosiers with 10 kills on the night, her 15th double-digit kill performance of the season. Beerman has 255 kills this season for Indiana.
Sophomore setter Victoria Brisack recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 23 assists and 10 digs. Junior captain Elizabeth Asdell continued her strong offensive attack with nine kills and she hit .389 for the match.
The Hoosiers (12-17, 1-16) came out strong in the opening set as they jumped out to 10-7 lead on a kill from Deyshia Lofton. Beerman connected on five of her first eight attempts to hit .500 in the first set.
The Hoosiers kept it close trailing 22-18, but Penn State made a surge with an efficient offensive attack and a .400 hitting percentage in the first set to win it, 25-21.
In the second set Indiana limited Penn State to eight kills and that hitting percentage dropped to .148 for the set and .258 for the match, well below the Nittany Lions season hitting percentage of .351. Indiana had 10 kills in the second set and allowed Penn State to win the second set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Nitany Lions hit .632 in the final set to close out the match in three sets.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to No. 8 Michigan State for a match in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
