BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Baseball head coach Chris Lemonis has announced that junior catcher Ryan Fineman and junior right-handed pitcher Pauly Milto have been named team captains for the 2018 season. Fineman and Milto were selected by their teammates.
"I am excited to announce Ryan and Pauly as our captains for the 2018 season," said Lemonis. "The team voted them to be our captains based on their day-to-day performance in our program. They are very talented baseball players, but more importantly, men of high character who have a strong influence on our team. I am looking forward to them leading our team this spring."
Fineman appeared in 52 games, making 45 starts last year for the Hoosiers. He had 42 hits on the year, including seven doubles and two home runs while driving in 17 runs. An All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection during the 2016 season, he served as Indiana's primary catcher, appearing in 54 games, making 50 starts. During his rookie campaign, he finished tied for third on the team with 51 hits, while also adding eight doubles (T-3rd), three home runs (T-5th) and 25 RBI (T-3rd). He has played in 106 career games, with 95 starts.
A Third Team All-Big Ten selection and IU's Pitcher of the Year in 2017, Milto led the team with 78.0 innings and 56 strikeouts, while posting a 6-3 record with a 3.92 ERA. He made 20 appearances with 10 of them being starts and finished 12th in the Big Ten in strikeouts (65) and 13th in innings pitched (78.0). In conference games only, he was tied for first in wins (5), ninth in innings pitched (47.0) and strikeouts (40) and 15th in ERA (3.64). Mito opened NCAA Regional play for the Hoosiers and tossed six innings vs. N.C. State, where he struck out a career-high nine batters.
