Covington to Play in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Indiana linebacker Chris Covington accepted an invitation to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. The game will be held on Jan. 20, 2018, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif. Kick time is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on FS1.
Covington earned honorable mention All-Big Ten (coaches and media) and was named IU's Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. He finished the season with 85 tackles (3rd on the team, T-13th in the Big Ten), 50 solo (3rd, T-11th), 12.0 for loss (2nd, T-10th), three sacks (22 yards), one fumble recovery, five pass breakups (T-3rd) and five quarterback hurries (2nd).
The Chicago native started all 12 games and led the Hoosiers in stops twice and recorded seven-plus on six occasions. Covington collected a TFL in 10 games and set career-highs in tackles (11), solos (6), stops for loss (2) and QBHs (3), and added one sack at No. 18 Michigan State.
In his career, he started 13 times at linebacker and played in 38 overall games at linebacker (33) and quarterback (5). Covington made 118 tackles, 70 solo, five sacks (29 yards), 15.0 tackles for loss (50 yards), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, six quarterback hurries and five pass breakups.
