Indiana Wins 18 Events at the Hoosier Hills Invitational
2/10/2017 8:35:00 PM | Track and Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In the final home meet of the 2006-17 indoor track and field season, the Indiana University team dominated the field, winning 18 events.
David Schall won the shot put throw with a career best heave of 18.80m (61-8.25), while Willie Morrison took second in the event. Schall's throw moves him up to fourth on the all-time Hoosier indoor list. Andrew Miller was victorious again in the weight throw. Miller, who had set the school record in each of the previous two meets, had a winning throw of 20.10m (65-11.5). Nakel McClinton won the women's weight throw with a heave of 18.94m (62-1.75). Nycia Ford took third in the event with a mark of 17.33m (56-10.25) and won the shot put with a throw of 15.38m (50-5.5).
Down in Arkansas Eric Bethea set a new personal best at the Tyson Invitational in the triple jump. The sophomore flew to a mark of 16.34m (53-7.5), the fifth best jump in school history. As it stands right now the mark is also good for a top five mark in the NCAA. Paul Galas came out with the win in the high jump competition. He was one of three jumpers to clear the bar at 2.12m (6-11.5). The other two other competitors to make it over at that height did not have as clean of a slate of Galas, thus Paul won via the tiebreaker. Treyton Harris placed third with the same clearance, just shy of his career high.
Haley Harris led the Indiana sweep in the 3,000m run. She won the event with a time of 9:39.51. Katherine Free and Chanli Mundy took second and third, respectively. In the men's 3,000m run it was Jeremy Coughler who crossed first for IU with a time of 8:09.46. Corinne Cominator placed first in the women's mile run. Her winning time was 4:51.92. Running unattached, Hannah Stoffel and Grace Walther both finished under the five-minute mark.
Mackenzie Bollinger secured the victory in the 600m run with a time of 1:32.03. Joely Pinkston was the runner-up. Adam Wallace was the fastest on the men's side with a time of 1:20.22. Teammate Diquis Manley was second in the event.
In the sprinting events, Brittany Thomas took first in the 60m dash and the 200m dash. Maya Caudle was the 200m dash runner-up finishing with a time of 25.07. Kendell Wiles and Markevious Roach swept the 400m dash for the Hoosiers. Wiles won with a time of 55.62, just ahead of teammate Riley Egbula who finished second. Roach's winning time was 48.72, just ahead of Caleb Ojennes. Adrian Mable and Gracie Heeb each finished as runner-ups in the 60m hurdle finals. Heeb set a career best mark of 8.79 in the finals.
The women's distance medley relay (DMR) team consisting of Kelsey Harris, Mallory Mulzer, Joely Pinkston and Haley Harris dominated the competition, finishing with a time of 12:12.69. The men's DMR team of Cooper Williams, Dushawn Tunstall, Kyle Burks and Jason Crist also won by a large margin. Their winning time was 10:12.24. The women's 4x4 relay team of Mackenzie Bollinger, Riley Egbula, Kendell Wiles and Taylor Williams cruised to the victory with a time of 3:45.43.
The Hoosiers will be back in action next weekend when a small group heads up north to Notre Dame to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational. The meet will serve as the final indoor meet prior to the Big Ten Championships at the end of the month.
