BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Nine athletes will be heading up north to South Bend for the annual Alex Wilson Invitational tomorrow. With the Big Ten Championships right around the corner, the majority of the track and field team will have the weekend off.
The women's distance medley relay (DMR) team will be part of the small group headed to the campus of Notre Dame. A couple of weekends ago at the Meyo Invitational, also at Notre Dame, the team won the DMR, outdueling Michigan and setting a school record of 11:06.15 in the process. Brenna Calder will run the leadoff 1,200m leg before passing the baton to Taylor Williams for the 400m section. Olivia Hippensteel will be the third runner with the baton, carrying for 800m, before letting the All-American take over. Katherine Receveur will carry the final stage, which is 1,600m.
The men's DMR team will also compete for the Hoosiers. The team will consist of Joe Murphy in the leadoff role. He will give way to sprinter Markevious Roach. The 800m duties will be handled by Daniel Kuhn, the six-time Big Ten Athlete of the Week. Finally, Kyle Mau will anchor the relay with a mile carry. This meet will mark the first time that the group has run the DMR this season, and they will aim to secure a spot in the NCAA Championships.
The ninth, and final, runner will be Jordan Huntoon. The redshirt junior is having a great season in the middle distance events. Heading into the weekend Huntoon ranks as the 47th best half-miler in the country and seventh in the Big Ten conference.
The women's DMR will be the first race on Saturday with Indiana representation. Calder will step to the line at approximately 11:40 a.m. and will be immediately followed by the men's race at 12:10 p.m. Huntoon will close out the IU action running in the 800m schedule for 2:25 in the afternoon.
