BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Hoosiers (15-11, 5-8) fell to the Michigan Wolverines (16-9, 6-6) inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday afternoon, 75-63.
Indiana's offensive effort today was led by freshmen De'Ron Davis, who scored 13 points in just 14 minutes of play.
Michigan was hot early, taking a nine-point, 22-13 lead by the 9:13 mark of the first half. Although down, the Hoosiers never gave in. Indiana cut Michigan's lead down to five on multiple occasions in the half, but Michigan managed to take a 10-point lead into the half, up 35-25.
The Hoosiers came out of the locker room shooting the ball very well and outscored Michigan, 10-6, through the first 6:22 of the second half, cutting Michigan's lead down to six. Midway through the half, Michigan would go on a 10-4 run, expanding their lead to 60-47, and putting Indiana at their largest deficit of the afternoon with 4:58 remaining in the game. From there, Indiana managed to reduce the deficit to as few as eight points on two occasions, but could not prosper from there.
Apart from Davis, Indiana had two more score in double digits, Juwan Morgan and Josh Newkirk, both with 11 points. Newkirk added three rebounds to his effort, and Morgan tallied five rebounds on the day.
In making two 3-pointers, Robert Johnson continued his streak of hitting at least one 3-pointer in every Big Ten Conference game this season. Johnson led Indiana in the rebounding department with seven.
Indiana ended the game shooting 49 percent (25-51) from the field and out-rebounded Michigan 32-29. This marks the 21st time this season Indiana has either beaten or tied (twice) their opponent in rebounding.
Indiana looks to bounce back from this afternoon's loss on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 9:00 p.m. ET when the Hoosiers face the Golden Gophers of Minnesota as the Williams Area in Minneapolis Minnesota. The game will be available state wide on the IU Radio Network and will air on the Big Ten Network.
