Jackson's unblemished dual record pressured by No. 12 Gravina
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Indiana took part in their penultimate away Big Ten dual of the season on Sunday afternoon, traveling to the Rutgers Athletic Center for a showdown with the No. 13 Scarlet Knights. The Hoosiers (9-7, 2-5) took three bouts but fell on the final team score line, 25-9, to Rutgers (11-3, 6-1).
Senior No. 6 Nate Jackson (184) led the way in the second match of the afternoon, taking a close 5-4 decision over No. 12 Nick Gravina. Jackson (26-2) led 2-1 after three minutes, fending off Gravina's single-leg shot in the closing seconds. In the second period, Jackson again scored a takedown that was neutralized by two Gravina escapes. The combatants split two points in the third, giving Jackson the narrow decision.
Jackson is now 16-0 in dual meets this season. The decision against Gravina is win No. 98 on his career record, his fifth against the national top-20 this year.
Elijah Oliver (125) followed before intermission with his 7-3 decision victory against Brandon Paetzel. The win, Oliver's third since returning from injury last weekend, started in the second period. Oliver (12-4) scored with short time in the first period, but Paetzel made it 2-1 with a late escape. Starting down in the second, Oliver sprung to his feet and scored again for a 3-0 differential in the period.
Oliver stamped the win in the third with another takedown, improving to 12-4 on the season with a 3-1 record in Big Ten duals.
Bryce Martin (165) closed the meet with his third consecutive victory, a 4-0 decision win over Dylan Painton. Martin (15-5) broke a 0-0 tie in the second period with an escape and a short time takedown. He picked up a ride-out point in the third period, sealing his first shutout win of the year.
Beginning the day at 174 lbs. No. 20 Devin Skatzka suffered his third Big Ten dual loss against Jordan Pagano. Pagano scored the only points of a 2-0 decision with a takedown in the first period to even their all-time series at 1-1.
The Scarlet Knights pulled away in the eighth and ninth bouts of the afternoon. Chris Perez (149) dropped his fourth all-time meeting with No. 14 Ken Theobold, a 7-1 decision, before Jake Danishek (157) lost an 8-7 comeback decision to Anthony Giraldo.

As many as six Hoosiers could match up against top-20 wrestlers in the meet. Four Hawkeyes rank in the national top five, including the opponents of IU's senior starters. No. 6 Nate Jackson (184) faces No. 5 Sammy Brooks for the third time this season; Chris Perez (149) will meet No. 4 Brandon Sorensen.
