BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University University Track and Field team will be competing in three separate meets this weekend. The majority of the team will stay home to host the Hoosier Hills Invitational. A pair of distance runners will head west to run in the Iowa State Classic. The final group, comprised of several jumpers, will compete in the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas.
Indiana will host 13 other teams at the Hoosier Hills Invitational, including South Florida, Butler and Eastern Kentucky. The meet is schedule to begin promptly at 4:00 p.m. with the women's 60m hurdle prelims. The finals of the event will be held just before 5:00 p.m. The last of the running events will take place at approximately 8:00 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
The field events will also start at 4:00 p.m. with the men's weight throw. Andrew Miller will aim to break the school record in the event for the third consecutive weekend. The junior fed off of an electric atmosphere at the IU Relays to establish the school record in the event. Last weekend, at the Meyo Invitational, Miller broke his own record, securing a victory the event.
School record holder Nakel McClinton will be one of the three Hoosier throwers in the women's weight throw. This meet will mark the third of Nakel's redshirt senior season. Last year, her junior campaign, McClinton qualified for the NCAA championships, earning Second-Team All-America honors in the weight throw.
Yet another school record holder will be in action for the Hoosiers tomorrow evening. Sophomore Willie Morrison took over the school record in the shot put on his second heave of the season. Morrison has numerous event wins under his belt, and he will look to continue that success this weekend.
Between the men's and women's races the Hoosiers will send three to the start line of the "fast section" of the 400m dash. Sophomore teammates Riley Egbula and Taylor Williams will square off in the women's heat. Markevious Roach, the school record holder in the 500m dash, will run in the men's section.
Amanda Behnke will run in her second meet of the season. The redshirt senior will look to lead a group of Hoosiers to a strong race in the women's 3,000m run. The other three IU runners in the race will be Katherine Free, Haley Harris and Chanli Mundy.
Just one day after being named a USTFCCCA Academic All-American, Matt Schwartzer will head to Ames, Iowa to compete in the Iowa State Classic. Schwartzer will join teammate Bryce Millar in the 3,000m race on Friday evening.
Indiana will send four jumpers to the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas. Ari Nelson will compete in the women's long jump at 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Treyton Harris and Eric Bethea will jump in the men's long jump, which will also start at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Harris will join Paul Galas in the high jump competition starting at noon on Saturday.
