BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University track and field team will be sending 10 distance runners just outside Palo Alto, California for the Stanford Invitational. All 10 runners will compete on Friday.
The men's 5,000m will kick off the day for the Hoosiers. Jeremy Coughler, a Big Ten point scorer in the indoor 5k, will be the first IU athlete to race. Section four of the men's 5,000m run will begin at 2:00 p.m. EST on Friday afternoon.
The next heat for the men's 5,000m run will not take off until about 10:45 p.m. EST. Kyle Mau, a Big Ten Champion and All-American in the DMR, and Matt Schwartzer, the seventh place finisher at the Big Ten Championships in the 3k, will run for the Hoosiers in heat three. Ben Veatch, the reigning Big Ten Cross Country Freshman of the Year, will run unattached in the heat. Competing unattached will keep his redshirt option available for the outdoor season.
Finally, Jason Crist, who scored points at the Big Ten Championships in both the 3k and the 5k, and Bryce Millar will run in the second section of the 5,000m run. They are slated to begin at 11:00 p.m. EST.
Brenna Calder earned silver in the finals of the Big Ten Championships of the mile run. Teammate Haley Harris secured fifth place in the event. Both runners will participate in the fourth seeded section of the women's 5k, starting at 2:15 p.m. EST on Friday.
Maggie Allen finished eighth at the Big Ten Championships, scoring one point, in the 5,000m run. Her time of 16:10.05 was good for the fourth fastest time in school history in the event. Allen will take to the starting line of the second section of the women's 5k at 10:25 p.m. EST on Friday night.
Katherine Receveur won the Indoor Big Ten Championship in the 5,000m run, shattering the school record with a time of 15:28.89. She finished as the Big Ten runner-up in the 3,000m and went on to finish sixth at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America status. She will be the lone Hoosier in the invitational section of the women's 5k, slated to begin at 11:20 p.m. EST.
The final race of the evening will be the women's 10,000m run. Chanli Mundy will open up her outdoor campaign. The senior from Terre Haute had a career day last season at this meet, running the 10k in 34:14.01, the seventh best time in school history. Her race is set to begin at 1:05 a.m. EST.
