
Strong Pitching Leads Indiana to 2-0 Win at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana baseball (17-13-2) took its lone midweek game of the week, 2-0, over the Indiana State Sycamores on Tuesday evening. The Hoosiers pitching staff allowed just five hits in the effort, posting their second shutout of the season.
Sophomore Tim Herrin tossed three scoreless innings to pick up the win. He held the Sycamores to three hits and struck out two. Freshman Cameron Beauchamp came in for Herrin and posted a two-inning effort that saw the Hoosiers' lefty hold Indiana State to two hits and one strikeout. Freshman Andrew Saalfrank retired all six batters he faced in a two inning relief appearance, while junior Austin Foote closed the final two innings and retired all six batters en route to his first career save.
Sophomore Luke Miller paced the offense with two hits and scored a run. Junior Logan Sowers and freshman Jeremy Houston each contributed RBI for the Hoosiers.
Indiana State tagged a pair of infield hits in the first inning, but a groundout to Houston at short ended the threat.
The Hoosiers' offense struggled to get going its first time through the lineup, but Indiana broke the stalemate in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Miller led off the frame with a single and advanced to second before coming around to score on Sowers' RBI double. Freshman Jake Matheny followed with a single to push Sowers to third, while a free pass to senior Tony Butler loaded the bases for the Hoosiers. Houston pushed Sowers across with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Sycamores put themselves in positon to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth by loading the bases with no outs. Beauchamp picked up a strikeout on three-straight pitches before forcing a 4-6-3 double play to preserve Indiana's 2-0 lead.
Saalfrank tossed an easy 1-2-3 inning in the sixth and seventh innings before Foote closed the door in the final two frames.
Indiana next faces Minnesota for a three-game series beginning at 6:05 p.m. on Friday from Bart Kaufman Field.
