The Hoosiers hit four home runs in the contest, coming from senior Alex Krupa, junior Craig Dedelow, sophomore Matt Lloyd and freshman Matt Gorski. Lloyd hit his second grand slam of the season in the fifth inning to put the Hoosiers ahead by three. Gorski and senior Tony Butler each recorded three hits in the win, while sophomore Luke Miller, junior Logan Sowers and sophomore Ryan Fineman each tallied two hits apiece.
For the second-straight game, Minnesota's Alex Boxwell led off the game with a home run. The Golden Gophers followed with two-straight hits, a single and a double, to plate another run to make it a 2-0 game. The Hoosiers answered right back in the bottom of the first when Krupa delivered a solo shot in his leadoff at-bat to trim the Golden Gopher lead to 2-1.
After Minnesota manufactured a run in the top of the second, Indiana came back with another in the bottom half. Gorski led off the frame with a base-hit and Butler doubled down the left field line to give the Hoosiers runners on second and third. Houston then reached on an infield hit to plate a run and make it a 3-2 game in favor of Minnesota.
Indiana tied the game back up in the third. Prior to the Hoosier at-bats, the Golden Gophers plated a run on infield hit to take the two-run lead. With one out in the bottom of the third, Sowers delivered a double to the right centerfield gap. Dedelow followed with his two-run home run, his ninth of the year, to knot the game up at four runs.
The Golden Gophers biggest inning came in the fourth, plating four runs, all with two outs. A pair of two-run home runs by Matt Stemper and Jordan Kozicky gave Minnesota an 8-4 edge.
The nine-run fifth started with a leadoff walk to Gorski and singles by Fineman and Butler, where Gorski scored on the Butler base-hit. A walk to freshman Jeremy Houston loaded the bases for senior Ausitn Cangelosi, who reached on a pinch-hit, infield single to score Fineman. After Miller was hit to plate another run, Lloyd delivered the grand slam to make it an 11-8 game. Then with one out, after Dedelow was hit by a pitch, Gorski went deep for his third home run of the year, to increase the lead to 13-8.
Minnesota rallied with two outs in the sixth, as Luke Petterson hit an RBI single to make it 13-9. The Golden Gophers followed with three more runs on three hits to trim the Hoosier lead to just one run.
Freshman Cal Krueger entered the game in the eighth. After he forced a flyout, two-straight Golden Gophers reached on singles. However, the Hoosiers escaped the jam as Butler made a nice play with Houston to turn a 4-6-3 double play.
Llloyd tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his third save.
Indiana and Minnesota will face off in the rubber game at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday.
