BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's tennis (13-10) came away with a 4-1 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday afternoon inside the IU Tennis Center. After the match, seniors Stefan Lugonjic and Matthew McCoy were honored for their dedication to the program.
IU won the doubles point and three matches in singles to notch their second straight win.
Doubles was exhilarating as two of three positions went to a tiebreaker. Lugonjic, in his last match, and Sophomore Antonio Cembellin won 6-4. At the three spot, freshmen Bennett Crane and Zac Brodney went to a tiebreaker that ended with Iowa evening up doubles.
The extra point came down to the top spot featuring juniors Raheel Manji and Keivon Tabrizi. Iowa once led 5-3 in the match and had a match point up 6-5. Manji and Tabrizi never wavered and came back to force the tiebreaker. Leading 6-5 in the tiebreaker, Tabrizi's forehand was too much for the Hawkeyes pair and the Hoosiers won the tiebreaker and doubles point.
Iowa came back from losing the doubles point to win the first match in singles, at the two spot. The next three singles belonged to the Hoosiers.
Tabrizi won his second straight match in straight sets, this one 6-2, 6-3. At the top spot, Manji took down the No. 109 player, 6-2, 6-4. This is the second time Manji has beaten the No. 109 player, earlier in the season, Manji knocked off No. 109 Alexander Day of Princeton.
Indiana clinched its 13th win of the season when sophomore Oliver Sec came from behind in a tiebreaker to win his match, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
Up next, the Hoosiers will close out the regular season with a match against the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday, April 21 and against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday, April 23.
